“Let’s get out of the rain and into the car,” the officer said. Richard went around to the back seat. Gwen opened the front passenger door. McCabe turned briefly to make sure Richard was comfortable before turning back to Gwen. The cruiser smelled of wet leather and aftershave.

“This is the way it seems to have panned out from our interview with the gentlemen over there.” McCabe motioned in the direction of one of the sedans. “Three young men were camping up near Taylor Meadows with the idea of starting for Black Tusk early this morning. Around 0745 hours they passed a steep drop of about 35 meters. That’s roughly 115 feet,” the Inspector added. Gwen and Richard nodded.

McCabe continued. “They were moving on when one of them spotted a reflection. The sun wasn’t high, but it caught his eye all the same, and he took a look. There was a dark object at the base of the cliff they took to be a body. Assumed someone had fallen. With binoculars they could make out that it was a man."
